hatching sands

Abandoned unless there is a clutch, these are deep sands tunneled deep into the Weyr, with one large gap at the top opening into the sky and cascading light down onto any present eggs. When a hatching begins, all the dragons and riders of the Weyr enter through the skylight to settle upon tiers of rock to observe. The sands are deep to protect the eggs and keep them warm. It's awkward for a human to walk through. The sands are strictly maintained by weyrstaff to be the perfect depth. When a clutch is laid, the Queen will remain here with them until they hatch, leaving only to feed.
