the caldera

The Weyr was built into the body of an extinct volcano, the weyrs and tunnels built into the rock itself, and the empty basin converted to grassland for the runnerbeasts and wherries to graze and for the dragons to hunt them. There's a small lake at the center of the basin, surrounded by rocks that are ideal for leaping off of into the water, or for a dragon to perch upon to sun itself. Many dragons and riders come here to fill their bellies and kick back and socialize when off duty. Mating flights usually originate high above the caldera and migrate away from the Weyr.
