name: K'ten (i'll figure out a birthname Later)
sex: male
age: mid-30s?
faceclaim: Matt Mercer
dragon name: Yharnath
dragon color: Bleached Brown
dragon personality: Seems like he's in his own world most of the time, doesn't talk a lot to other dragons or his rider. Has some pretty severe neuroses as a result of his bleaching; has a severe 'wobble' (see this post) that results in him corkscrewing his head around, shaking it, and swaying, seemingly due to a vestibular issue. He is capable of walking, but can't stay in a straight line, and stumbles often or turns in circles. He is technically capable of flying, as well, but will corkscrew and barrel roll in air so much that it's incredibly unsafe. Being completely bleached, his emotions are entirely unreadable to the outside observer, as his eyes are also white. Yharnath is also fond of stimming verbally, and emits a constant low hum with occasional bursts of sound in different circumstances. He's perfectly friendly and intelligent, truly, but most dragons and their riders don't think so. However, Yharnath doesn't much mind or seem to notice that he's any different.
basic appearance: Absurdly tall and lanky, with long, straight brown hair and hazel eyes. Stands sort of unevenly though, and occasionally walks with a cane. Much like his dragon, K'ten also occasionally has a slight tilt to his head as a result of trauma. Has a faded black tattoo of a tree on his back, the last remnants of his ravager upbringing.
primary personality traits: K'ten tries really, really hard not to let the jabs other riders make at Yharnath get to him. He really does. He loves Yharnath with everything in him, but sometimes he's... ashamed of his dragon. He's ugly and weird and not quite right, and it was his nightmares realised when Yharnath hatched and circled right to him. Oftentimes, this shame bubbles over into rage. Originally, K'ten was as good at controlling his anger as the average man, but after a fall from Yharnath injured him, he is more prone to having strong emotional outbursts over very minor provocations. Moreover, he struggles to remember things on the short-term and certain memories from the past as well, relying on Yharnath's memory to fill in the blanks. But even then, these memories often feel strange to him. Additionally, K'ten is incredibly restless and craves nothing more than to be useful to someone. If he can't do his duties as a dragonrider, what good is he?
relevant history: Born into a ravager group after his parents joined it, and was raised there until he was 15. By then, he'd received his ritual tattoo and was considered an adult, and he relished in hunting and raiding. On a hunt, he was collected by a dragonrider and dragged off to the Weyr without a word left to his people. He didn't know much about the Weyrs, but he did know about the bleaching sickness. When he was a boy, it was still fresh in the minds of the people, and his parents spoke with the other ravagers about bleached horrors collecting tithes of children and goods by force. As such, he was understandably quite afraid of dragons, particularly the white ones. He relaxed somewhat as he lived in the Weyr for the time before the Hatching, but when the day came, his fears were renewed when a white dragon was pried from its egg and bumbled towards him, wobbling and spinning. Thus, Yharnath Impressed upon K'ten. The first short while of training went as well as it could, considering Yharnath's disabilities, but when time came to practice flying, disaster struck. Yharnath's inability to remain steady in the air led him to drop K'ten, who fell and sustained injuries so severe that it was thought he simply wouldn't wake up. But he did, and while he's mostly recovered from the physical injuries (a limp and certain emotional impairments remain) he and Yharnath have been grounded indefinitely.
relevant views on current events: Resents S'ris pretty heavily for making him and Yharnath effectively useless, even if he knows that Yharnath is in no shape to do much of any duties around the Weyr. Also blames him for kinda his whole life going the way it did and ravagers existing, because he's An Asshole to the Holds. Kinda feels weird raiding the Holds now? He understands that ravagers and dragonriders alike do it because they have to, but it's a really weird power shift that he's not sure how to feel about. But he's not directly involved in either side of it now. Generally very frustrated and restless. Feels torn between two sides of things.
ambitions: To be useful. He really, really wants to make the best out of his title as a dragonrider, and sort of to restore the Weyr to 'the old ways,' though he was never alive to experience those. He wants the iron rule of S'ris to end, for dragonriders to not have to resort to force to get what they need, much like he wants for ravagers, because he can remember that it was a challenging life.
other: this ended up different from how he was originally but i'm sure he'll probably change and grow when i rp with him some
