Name: Kivaeil
Sex: Female
Age: 19
Dragon name: Retiath
Dragon color: Blue, almost completely bleached piebald with white eyes
Dragon personality: Slightly deranged, Retiath perpetuates the stereotype of the distrusted bleached dragon. Slight offenses by way of a stranger’s touch, bring out a bloodthirsty and vengeful side of the dragon which even his rider is unable to quell. Luckily, Retiath has earned himself quite the reputation, and humans and dragons alike have learned to be careful to keep their hands and paws to themselves, lest they get to enjoy the pleasant sensation of being dismembered. As long as this “no touching” rule is followed, Retiath is an upstanding dragon who is very in-tune with his rider. Because of his white eyes, Retiath is seen to be cold and calculating, but Kivaeil knows him to be simply curious, attentive, and alert. Because of this great attentiveness, Retiath is a fantastic fisher.
Basic appearance: A well-stuctured face makes Kivaeil look fragile, but she is truly a wall of muscle. Forged by working in the redfruit fields and fishing alongside her father, she dons broad shoulders, calloused hands, a permanent tan. Often casual, semi-slouched posture, and an expression to match when not in a Hold or near holdsfolk. Medium-length, brown hair, bleached on the ends to a light tan by the sun. Smells of seasalt and fish blood.
Primary personality traits: She doesn’t like to admit it, but Kivaeil is very insecure about her place in the world and her place on Retiath’s back. She copes by showing her dragon as much love as the holdsfolk do hate and by never taking her frustration out on him, but it still gets to her. Realizing that the public will never accept her or her dragon, Kivaeil is stoic and straight-forward to those who discriminate against her. She rarely talks to the holdsfolk, so they see her as rude along with distrusting her. She is good at heart and will try to help anyone, even if they have insulted her, though it usually doesn’t work out because of their distrust. Loyal to a fault-- a sheep in her willingness to follow orders. Desperate to be liked and accepted.
Relevant history: Worked as a fisher and a harvester in a redfruit field in the Nezehm Hold until she was 12, when she was chosen and taken from her father to a Hatching. There, she was Impressed by Retiath, who only slightly mauled her left shoulder before he succeeded on Impressing. She stayed near the other new riders to learn the ropes for the first few months. When she returned home to say hello to her father, who had always supported her no matter what, she found that he had disappeared. Devastated and confused, she took up his fishing business in his absence, along with her duties for the Weyr.
Relevant views on current events: Extremely resentful of the disease and the stigma against bleached dragons. Will follow her superiors without question and doesn’t think much of it.
Ambitions: She doesn’t think about moving up at all. Just wants to be liked.
Other: It has not been easy working with and riding Retiath. His derangement is difficult to work around and it compromises the trust between rider and dragon. The backlash from the community has also been monumental, Kivaeil being a woman (lesbian) rider, let alone Retiath’s derangement and near-bleached color. Many holdfolk insist that the things are connected, comparing the pair to the devil. Demands have even been made to destroy Retiath, and, consequentially, Kivaeil.
